Case Study - The RCH Project Division mainly constitutes for the improvement of women and child health care.

As a part of achieving the above objective, RCH initiated for developing a District level Hospital Database for selected districts of TamilNadu State using GIS Technology.

Spatial Data Pvt.Ltd. created the Hospital Database with information on taluk hospital, non-taluk hospital, Govt. Headquarters Hospital, PHC location and Private Hospitals also. Facilities provision like Ambulance, Blood Bank provided by each of the government and private hospitals were also marked.

Along with the above mentioned base information, the In patient, Out Patient and Casualty Patient Information’s were also collected for all government hospitals of the district. This information is made use to assess the catchment area of each hospital in each category of In, Out and Casualty Patients.

Additional to all the above, the Infant and Maternal death information at village panchayat and block level were also plotted for analysis of IMR (Infant Mortality Rate) and MMR (Maternal Mortality Rate).

This GIS enables officials to determine:

Patients distribution at village panchayat level
Analysis of IMR (Infant Mortality Rate) and MMR (Maternal Mortality Rate).
Distribution of GH's and Private hospitals in TN Districts.
