The maps are organised into separate map databases.
There is one database for each one of the district and one for the
entire state. At the beginning of your work session you must choose
one map to work with. |

|
Each map is organised like a binder. There are map sheets. For
example a district map would contain a sheet giving district boundaries,
a sheet with Mandala/Panchayat boundaries, a sheet with villages and
towns, a sheet of roads and other label and annotation sheets. Each
of these sheets can have more than one table. For example if you have
data for the village sheet you can create one table for agriculture
statistics, one table for health statistics etc. Thus one map will
have many sheets and each sheet may have serveral tables associated
with it. We provide one table for each sheet. You can, with your own
data, create additional tables. |

|
Sheets are arranged the way you would file paper into a box file.
The sheet shown on top in the legend frame is right at the bottom
of the display. The sheet shown in the bottom of the legend frame
is on the top of the display. So what you get to see on the screen
is the sheet at the bottom of the legend frame. If you want to see
some other sheet, which is currently not visible, just switch off
the other sheets. You can reorder this list by using " Sheet
à Order" command in the menu. |

|
When you do an analysis, it is preferable to switch off all the
other sheets. For example is you are analysing some village data,
switch of all sheets other than village sheet. |

|
For some map sheets, labels will appear small. For example, names
of villages. This is done to avoid clutter in display. You can zoom
in or change the font size to suit your needs. |

|
In analysing tables, and creating thematic maps, the software omits
all records where the column is either zero or no data is available.
The analysis is carried out only for records with non-zero data. For
example, when you analyse, village level data, all uninhabited villages
are omitted from analysis. |

|
The software retains the last operation you had carried out on a
sheet. This is saved and when you open the map again it starts from
the last saved operation. In case you want to refresh the map colour,
use set sheet to single colour icon on the tool bar. Whenever a new
operation is done, the old one is cleared. |
 |
If you do not see a sheet filled with colour, go to "View"
in the menu and execute "Fill Polygons". |
 |
When you want to annotate ensure that the My_Annotation sheet is
displayed in the legend and is switched on. |
 |
If the map is not properly positioned even after you zoom to full
extent, go to View menu and "Refresh Extent". Then use zoom
to extent button. |
 |
When you add your own data, if it is from dbf, please ensure that
it is of file type db3. |

|
Thematic map: If you are preparing thematic map by interval, please
take a careful look at the intervals generated by the software. If
necessary change the interval. For example if we are preparing a thematic
map based on population in a district, the lowest population will
be zero for uninhabited village and the highest will be the population
of a city. The programme will divide this in five equal classes and
all the villages may lie in only one class. You can use the "equal
object interval" option to get a equal spread of objects in all
intervals. |
 |
Keep in mind that once a process such as thematic mapping is started,
it can not be stopped in the middle. |
 |
While adding new coulmns, please ensure that the Table Field Names
do not have spaces or special characters like "&" in
them. |

|
Detaching a sheet from a map only removes it from the view. The
file remains in the folder. If you are creating a lot of temporary
files, have a naming convention that distinguishes your files, and
delete them from the //../Spinfo/Spinfo ProductName/District_Name/MapData
folder. If you make a sheet called Juri1, four files will be added
to the MapData folder. These will have Juri1 as the name and will
have different file extensions. To delete a sheet, delete all four
files. |

|
Printing : To print more than one boundary sheet at a time. To see
and print the boundaries of village and say Mandals at the same time,
use Sheet Order to place the Mandal sheet above the village layer.
Using the Sheet à Change Attributes function, change the outline
colour of the Mandal boundaries, and set the fill type to Transparent.
|

|
Adding Legend and Scale Bar to the Map The size of the legend and
scale bar will depend on the zoom level at which you insert them.
If you want the legend and scale bar to be of different size, delete
and redraw them at a different zoom level. |
